How To Play Baccarat

Baccarat is not one of the most common games in a casino with many people believing it to be difficult or not actually knowing a lot about it. In fact, baccarat can be a highly simple and enjoyable game to play. The image of the game is wrapped up with James Bond but it is a game of chance, not skill, where a player has to compare two hands and decide upon one of three outcomes.

How To Play Baccarat

A full sized baccarat table can rival the size of a craps table, it can comfortably seat 12 to 14 players and many casinos will play the game with three separate dealers around the table. All of the players around the table are able to place a bet in the banker or the player. You may have heard of the game called Punto Banco, which is another term for baccarat and this name derives from the fact that Punto means the player and Banco means the banker.

The dealer will customarily place their bet on the banker but every player is free to bet on which outcome they wish. Players also have the option to not deal and they can pass the shoe on to the player that is next to them. If the bank wins, that player will remain with the shoe. If the Punto or player wins, the shoe will be moved on to the following player.

Who will win and lose Each Baccarat Hand?

There are two hands dealt in the game and players have to bet on the hand which will win or if there will be a tie. This means that there are three options to choose from but there is a similarity to be taken between betting on odds or even at the roulette table. The pay off for choosing the hand that wins is even money but if you bet on the stand-off and that comes off, the pay off is likely to be at around 8-1 or 9-1. There is a disadvantage in betting on the banker in that most casinos will charge a levy of around 5% but there is an advantage in that the banker traditionally wins more often than the player when utilizing an 8 deck card playing style.

A hand should have 2 or 3 cards and the dealer will position two cards beneath the shoe facing downwards. They will then give two cards facing down to the player that has placed the most money on the player winning. The player then examines their cards before handing them back to the dealer. The dealer should then be turning both of the hands over and which point the dealer from the casino should declare the result of the game.

Play for the natural at Baccarat

If any of the hands in the game have a 9 or an 8 (with 9 being the highest in the game), this is referred to as a natural and there will be no more cards dealt from this point. If a natural does not occur in the game, there is the option for the dealer from the casino to order another card to be dealt. Each casino should have clear rules for this and players may want to familiarize themselves with the rules of an individual casino.

Once the game’s dealing process has been concluded, the highest hand wins. The losing bets should be collected in and then the winning bets should be paid out. This will be carried out by the casino dealers.

Baccarat is traditionally played from an eight deck shoe or from a six deck shoe of cards. In the game, cards of 10 and face cards carry no value. All of the other cards on display carry their face value and an Ace card is valued as a 1. There is no need to pay attention to the suits. The card count will only be considered in single number values and if any card count rises into double figures, the right hand number is the one that is count. For example, a 13 is counted as a 3, a 17 is counted as 7 and so on.

With respect to a third card being drawn, there are some rules which are usually followed automatically. If the player or banker has an 8 or 9, there is no need for any further cards to be drawn. If a player has a level of 5 or less, they will receive a third card. If a player does not take a third card, the banker will stand at 6 and they will take another card if their total is at 5 or less.

The more extensive rules for the banker and drawing a third card will depend on the hand status of the player.
